Richmond, VA Orthodontic Treatment with Invisalign by Dr. Gibberman

Have you ever wondered if there was an option to straighten teeth without the discomfort of braces? Braces require brackets and wires which can poke and irritate the skin. They can even prevent you from eating certain foods. That is why Richmond dentist Dr. Gibberman is proud to offer Invisalign, the convenient and comfortable solution to secretly align your smile

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign utilizes smooth, plastic trays that are virtually invisible, allowing you to smile with confidence. While Invisalign can be used by most patients, it is important to consult the doctor to determine if you are an ideal candidate for the treatment. Patients with gapped teeth, an overbite, underbite, open bite, or crossbite may consider Invisalign as a treatment option. Patients trust Avi B. Gibberman, DDS as their Invisalign dentist in Glen Allen because of his strong ethical standards and extensive knowledge of dentistry.

What to Expect During Invisalign Treatment

As you wear the aligners you will start to notice your teeth gradually shifting together. In general, every two weeks you will be asked to replace the existing aligner with the next one in succession. The duration of this process will depend on both the number of aligners prescribed from your treatment plan and if you are an adult or teen. Adults should expect a year for completion, whereas teenagers should expect a treatment time similar to conventional braces. For optimal results, patients should wear them for 22-23 hours per day.

Before your Invisalign trays are created, x-rays, impressions, and pictures are taken to help form digital 3-D images of your teeth. With these images, you will be able to watch a virtual illustration of how your teeth will straighten with each stage of treatment. The treatment plan is then sent to Invisalign for the construction of your fully customized aligner trays. Depending on the severity of the gaps between the teeth, the number of trays will vary. Our aligners are BPA-free, as they do not contain the industrial chemical used to create plastic. Unlike braces, Invisalign trays can be removed when you eat or brush your teeth.

The Benefits of Invisalign

While having a properly adjusted smile can bring confidence and higher self-esteem, some of the benefits go unnoticed. When teeth are correctly aligned, the gums are allowed to wrap around the teeth comfortably, increasing the defense against gum disease and other periodontal problems. Recent studies from the American Dental Association have shown that oral infections can lead to other health complications including heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Straighter teeth accomplished with Invisalign can help reduce the risk of these health problems.

Look Your Best During and after Treatment

Of course, you want to look great, at work, at school, with friends. Maybe you speak to groups or conduct meetings. You still can.
